World Uyghur Congress in Sarajevo to Elect New Leadership, Receives Threats from Chinese Embassy to Cancel Gathering

(Patria) - The World Uyghur Congress (WUC) will hold an international conference and its 8th General Assembly in Sarajevo from October 24 to 27, where it will elect new leadership.

The WUC claims to have received threats from the Chinese Embassy in Sarajevo to cancel the gathering, reports Istraga.ba.

As announced by the WUC, during the Assembly, leadership and board members will be elected democratically by representatives of affiliated organizations, representing the global Uyghur community.

The General Assembly will be preceded by an International Conference on the topic "From the Bosnian to the Uyghur Genocide: Lessons Learned".

"This conference aims to bring together Uyghur activists, civil society representatives, international and Uyghur scholars, as well as experts and policymakers with the goal of fostering and maintaining effective ways of cooperation between various Uyghur and other civil society groups and finding new ways to expand our work.

Thematic issues ranging from atrocity crimes, accountability, global supply chains to transnational repression will be at the center of the discussion," the WUC announced.

The WUC announced on its X profile that it is receiving threats from the Chinese embassy in Sarajevo, which is allegedly pressuring them to cancel the Assembly, arrest their delegates, specifically former president Isa Dolkun, and stage car accidents.
