World Health Day: Badminton against diabetes

Today's World Health Day is dedicated to the fight against diabetes (sugar disease) this year. More than 422 million people worldwide live with diabetes today. In Bosnia and Herzegovina, the number of cases has almost doubled today compared to 1980, reports the Patria News Agency.

Many people do not know that type 2 diabetes, which occurs in 90% of cases, can be prevented through frequent but moderate physical activity and a proper balanced diet. In addition, one of the most effective ways to strengthen immunity through physical exercises that increase breathing and cause sweating. Badminton is exactly like that.

Many people suffering from diabetes and hypertension (high blood pressure) play badminton to stay as healthy as possible. For example, in the Indian city of Hubli-Dharwad, more than 1000 people play badminton every day.

Badminton courts in recreational clubs and educational institutions are always full. Local doctors advise people with diabetes and hypertension to play badminton to control these diseases. This is because this sport can reduce sugar production in the liver and thus reduce blood sugar. It can also reduce high blood pressure, thereby reducing the burden on the heart.

Dr. Pramod Hiremath, an Indian diabetologist, states that there are more and more cases of diabetes, and most patients are in the age group of 40 to 50 years. Physical exercise is necessary to control diabetes. Many people do not use gyms, and regular running or walking seems boring to some.

- To keep them active, we usually suggest that diabetics engage in sports like badminton, which is as effective as other exercises for controlling diabetes. Many of our diabetic patients play badminton - he added.

Krishnamurthy Uchilla, a fifty-year-old diabetic, says:

- Playing badminton helps me control my sugar levels. This game keeps me active and in good shape. Since I started playing badminton, there have been no fluctuations in my sugar levels - Uchilla points out.

On the occasion of World Health Day, "Sarajevo badminton" invites you to tonight's free session at 9:00 PM or on Sunday, April 10th at 7:30 PM, because just thirty minutes of moderate physical activity and a healthy diet can help you and drastically reduce the risk of developing type 2 diabetes.
