World Bank praises Serbian government reforms

Prime Minister of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić met today in Belgrade with World Bank Director for Strategic and Operational Issues Mariam Sherman, who praised the reforms of the Serbian government, primarily in the area of financial stability preserved through the process of fiscal consolidation, as well as the direction of development Serbia is taking, reports Tanjug, as carried by NAP.

One of the main topics of the meeting was the program of the new Serbian government and the support the World Bank provides to the new mandate-holder Aleksandar Vučić.

Special attention was devoted to the restructuring process of public and state-owned enterprises EPS, RTB Bor, and Resavica, in which the World Bank actively participates in cooperation with relevant ministries.

Premier Vučić and Director Sherman also discussed the upcoming Western Balkans Summit in Paris, as well as the action plan for implementing the so-called soft measures for trade and infrastructure connectivity, which the World Bank will present at this Summit.

Sherman announced the visit of World Bank President Dr. Jim Kim to Belgrade in the second half of September. The priority topic to be discussed during this visit will be strengthening the education system in Serbia, primarily improving early childhood education programs, which will be implemented in cooperation with the Novak Đoković Foundation.

The meeting was also attended by World Bank Regional Director for Southeast Europe Ellen Goldstein. Vučić thanked both Sherman and Goldstein for the enormous support the World Bank has provided so far in the process of implementing reforms in Serbia and stressed that the Serbian government will continue to do everything in its new term to successfully carry out the necessary reform processes, according to a statement from the Serbian government, as reported by Tanjug.
