(Patria) - Switzerland has announced to the UN that it intends to organize a high-level peace conference on Ukraine by the summer, during a General Assembly meeting on the second anniversary of the Russian attack on Ukraine.
- At Ukraine's request, we plan to organize a high-level peace conference concerning Ukraine by the summer. Therefore, I would like to take this opportunity to invite all nations to act together towards our common goal - said Swiss Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's peace plan envisages the restoration of Ukraine's territorial integrity, the withdrawal of the Russian army, the protection of food and energy resources, nuclear safety, and the release of all prisoners of war.
- Russia cannot ignore the voice of the world majority if we all take a principled stance and act together. That peace formula represents precisely such an opportunity - said Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba at the General Assembly.
The Security Council also met yesterday to mark the anniversary of the Russian invasion, which began on February 24, 2022.
- The war in Ukraine remains an open wound in the heart of Europe - stated Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.
The UN General Assembly has significantly isolated Russia by calling for a "comprehensive, just, and lasting peace," demanding that Moscow withdraw its troops and cease hostilities, Hina reports.
- There is no need to waste time on Kyiv's futile plans based on Zelenskyy's so-called peace formula.
It is nothing more than an ultimatum to Russia and an attempt to drag as many countries as possible into endless meetings about this utopian project - said Russian Ambassador to the UN Vasily Nebenzya.
