Priest Mlađenović sings 'Kosovo Peonies' and greets compatriots from 'Serb Srebrenica'

SREBRENICA, (Patria) - During the celebration of Christmas Eve on Sunday evening in Srebrenica, a gathered group sang the Chetnik song “My grandfather has a beard down to his waist.” in front of the house of local mayor Mladen Grujičić.

Former Srebrenica mayor Ćamil Duraković told the Patria agency that he is concerned about the Chetnik songs at the Christmas Eve celebration in Srebrenica, as well as the pork remains placed next to the Memorial Center for the victims of the Srebrenica genocide in Potočari, stating that he is further concerned that the nationalistic messages from Srebrenica on the biggest Orthodox holiday did not come from individuals or a group, but were a “product of organized policy of local officials, supported by the local priest.”

 

 

The group that moved behind the mobile stage and musicians included the Orthodox priest from Srebrenica, Aleksandar Mlađenović.

“The celebration of Christmas as it was done last night in Srebrenica cannot have anything to do with God,” said Duraković.

“We know each other. We have lived together for centuries and we know how neighbors should celebrate their holiday. We should respect each other, have coffee together this morning, but something happened that is the opposite of that and is dangerous,” added the former mayor of Srebrenica.

Priest Mlađenović entertained himself at the celebration, when he himself took the microphone and sang “Kosovo Peonies”, after which he greeted Serbs in Kosovo from, as he said, Serb Srebrenica, NAP reports.

Duraković called on local mayor Grujičić to explain the recent events in Srebrenica, emphasizing that he does not want “good Serb people who celebrate Christmas in a traditional way to be collateral damage of such a policy.”
