Swedish and BiH "Merhamet", and "Penny Appeal Australia" organization secured 136,000 KM for kitchens

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - Eleven "Merhamet" soup kitchens in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the "Stari Grad" Soup Kitchen in Sarajevo received a total financial aid, in the value of 136,000 KM.

From that amount, "Merhamet" kitchens received 125,500 KM, while the "Stari Grad" Soup Kitchen received 9,500 KM.

The funds were secured through a joint campaign by "Merhamet" Sweden, the Humanitarian Organization "Penny Appeal Australia", and HO "Merhamet" MDD.

Of the total amount, "Merhamet" Sweden provided 94,000 KM, "Penny Appeal Australia" 36,000 KM, and the headquarters of HO "Merhamet" MDD 6,000 KM.

The method of distributing financial support to the soup kitchens, according to the number of their users, was determined by a special decision. "Merhamet" kitchens in Banja Luka, Bosanski Novi, and Bosanska Dubica each received 9,500 KM, as did the "Merhamet" soup kitchens in Bihać, Jajce, Maglaj, and Jablanica.

"Merhamet" also donated the same amount to the "Stari Grad" Soup Kitchen in Sarajevo, which is run by Zilha Šeta and is not part of "Merhamet".

The "Merhamet" kitchens in Zenica, Sarajevo, Travnik, and Tuzla received larger amounts.

Thus, the kitchen in Zenica received 12,500 KM, in Sarajevo 13,500 KM, in Travnik 15,500 KM, while the largest "Merhamet" kitchen in Tuzla, which has about 2,400 users, received 18,500 KM.

The President of HO "Merhamet" MDD Kenan Vrbanjac thanked "Merhamet" Sweden and the Humanitarian Organization "Penny Appeal Australia" for the successful campaign and for the significant support to "Merhamet" kitchens.

- "Merhamet" in its kitchens across Bosnia and Herzegovina feeds around 8,000 of its users, i.e., socially vulnerable families, every day. This entails significant costs, and any help is welcome so that we can provide regular and quality meals to our users. For example, in 2020, "Merhamet" prepared and distributed about 1,350,000 meals to its users, the value of which was over 4,345,000 KM.

We also donated 9,500 KM to the "Stari Grad" Soup Kitchen in Sarajevo. Although it is not part of "Merhamet", we wanted to help this kitchen as well, i.e., its users - said Vrbanjac.
