Sweden recognized the State of Palestine

The head of Swedish diplomacy, Margot Wallstrom, stated that the Swedish government recognized the State of Palestine by decree on Thursday, making Sweden the first Western country in the European Union to make such a decision, writes dawn.com, reports the BiH news agency Patria.

- Today, the government made a decision to recognize the State of Palestine. This is an important step that confirms the right of Palestinians to self-determination - the minister's statement is quoted in the text.

Wallstrom also published the same statement on her Twitter profile.

This recognition could encourage other countries to recognize Palestine. Palestinian authorities state that their state has been recognized by 134 countries, seven of which are European Union members that did so before joining the EU, namely the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Bulgaria, Romania, Malta, and Cyprus.
