Approximately 14,000 illegal migrants awaiting deportation have "disappeared from radar," Swedish police told local media, reports RT. They claim they do not know where these asylum seekers are, reports the Patria news agency.
At the end of October, Sweden ordered the police to deport 21,748 individuals. Of these, 14,140 registered by the police have disappeared.
"We simply do not know where they are," said Patrik Engström, head of the Swedish Border Police.
The remaining migrants, 7,608 of them, have stayed in refugee centers or are in detention or living separately awaiting deportation.
Sweden has tightened border controls due to the large influx of migrants and refugees and is returning all those who attempt to enter the country illegally.
Swedish authorities have stated that since January, 120,000 people have entered their country, while by the end of the year they will grant asylum to 190,000 refugees, reports Index.
