(Patria) - At the beginning of Velika Aleja this evening, the renovated Veliki Park was ceremonially opened, a place for rest and recreation that will surely become a favorite spot for all people seeking nature, relaxation, and entertainment.
The green oasis, spanning nearly 50,000 square meters, is bordered by Hrasnička cesta, Velika aleja, and Četvrte viteške brigade streets, and dates back to the Austro-Hungarian era, undoubtedly representing one of the most beautiful parks in Sarajevo Canton and beyond.
The revitalized Veliki Park will offer citizens the opportunity to enjoy nature and shared activities, with the central part of the park consisting of four amphitheaters of different dimensions, specially designed for hosting cultural and entertainment events. The Ilidža Municipality prepared a rich program for the park's opening, bringing a touch of history from the Austro-Hungarian period to Ilidža.
The Mayor of Ilidža Municipality, Nermin Muzur, and the Director of the Public Enterprise Ilidža, Jasmin Viteškić, ceremonially cut the ribbon, and as the mayor emphasized, this space will host all those who wish to find their place, whether seeking silence for reflection or time for relaxation.
"In an era of buildings and concrete, we are successfully building and renovating parks. After the revitalization of the Stojčevac picnic area, the construction of the Čarli Sports and Recreation Center, and the renovation of the Central Square, returning Veliki Park to the citizens is another important step towards building facilities that Ilidža lacked in previous years. What was promised has been fulfilled, and we can say that the Ilidža Municipality in Sarajevo Canton is recognized as the municipality with the most positive changes in the recent period," said Mayor Nermin Muzur.
Although the original park renovation plan called for the removal of several centuries-old trees, the mayor said that, to everyone's satisfaction, efficient solutions were found to preserve the trees and keep them as part of the natural beauty of Veliki Park, which represents a part of the historical heritage of Ilidža, Sarajevo, and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
In cooperation with the Ilidža Municipality, the Public Institution Museum of Sarajevo organized an exhibition titled "Sarajevo 1878 - 1918," which provided a clear depiction of the cultural and historical heritage of those four decades. The exhibition also thematized the official visit to Sarajevo by the heir to the Austro-Hungarian throne, Franz Ferdinand, and his wife Sophie, who stayed precisely in Ilidža.
A large number of citizens attended the ceremonial opening, and Ilidža and Sarajevo Canton have gained a new park and an oasis of peace.
