Putin and Xi Meet: Russia-China Relations at an Unprecedented Level

(Patria) - Russian President Vladimir Putin met with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing, just days after US President Donald Trump's visit to China. During the welcome of the two leaders, dozens of children waved Russian and Chinese flags, similar to during Trump's visit when American flags were displayed.

Chinese state media reported that Xi said during his opening address that China and Russia should mutually assist in the development and strengthening of their countries, while Putin emphasized that Moscow-Beijing relations have reached an unprecedented level. He also added that economic cooperation between the two countries continues to show a positive trend.

- Russia remains a reliable energy supplier amidst the ongoing Middle East crisis - said the Russian president.

Putin also stated that trade exchange between Russia and China has increased more than 30 times in the last 25 years.

Xi said that the relations between the two countries have reached their current level thanks to the continuous strengthening of political trust and strategic cooperation between Beijing and Moscow. He also assessed that the current international situation is unstable and marked by unilateral hegemony.

- As permanent members of the UN Security Council and important world powers, China and Russia should adopt a long-term strategic perspective and cooperate in building a fairer and more equitable global governance system - emphasized Xi.
