(Patria) – EU member state leaders have suspended the two-day summit being held in Brussels until Tuesday at 11:00 AM due to their inability to reach an agreement on appointments for the top positions in the EU Commission, Council, foreign policy department, and the Central Bank.
Leaders such as Emmanuel Macron are insisting on greater representation of women in the leadership of key EU institutions, and efforts will also be made to achieve a better balance between East and West.
The summit was interrupted late Sunday evening for bilateral consultations and resumed on Monday morning, but the discussion was then postponed until Tuesday at 11:00 AM.
Euronews writes that the current favorite for the Commissioner position is Dutchman Frans Timmermans, although the eastern bloc of EU countries opposes his appointment.
