Suruç: Suicide attack carried out by 20-year-old Turk

The suicide bombing in Suruç, which killed 32 people and injured more than 100, was carried out by a 20-year-old Turkish national, a Turkish official announced, reports the Patria News Agency.

- Based on the results of the DNA analysis, we can confirm that the attacker was a 20-year-old male, who was registered in Adıyaman (a province in southeastern Turkey), an unnamed official told AFP.

It was previously reported that one of the Islamic State members, who crossed into Turkey with two other female fighters from Syria, was believed to be behind the suicide attack in Suruç.

The target of the attack, which occurred on Monday, was the municipal cultural center in Suruç, in the southeastern province of Şanlıurfa, where members of the Federation of Socialist Youth Associations (SGDF) were staying as part of a summer expedition to help rebuild Kobanî, which lies directly across the border in Syria.

At the same time, it was announced that Turkish police arrested at least 11 people after last night's demonstrations turned violent in Istanbul and other cities, Reuters reports. Turkish police used tear gas and water cannons against hundreds of demonstrators who took to the streets to condemn the attack in the city of Suruç.
