(Patria) - First Deputy High Representative and Brčko Supervisor Michael Scanlan today welcomed the adoption of the Law on Associations and Foundations and the Law on the Rights of National Minorities in Brčko District.
Together with the old Budget Law, which was replaced by a new one in December 2019, the Law on Associations and Foundations had for years been perceived as an overtly poor instrument that enabled the
misuse of public funds. Both have now been replaced by new laws that focus on transparent budget management and public interest. The law adopted today will enable fair, transparent, and objective criteria-based support for the non-governmental sector.
The Law on the Rights of National Minorities, also adopted today, will enable greater inclusion and equal participation of minorities in the life of the District. In this regard, it will benefit the entire community by making the District a better place for all citizens.
Scanlan also welcomed the adoption of the action plan for public administration reform at the District Government session on Monday. This will be a priority goal in 2021, along with the adoption of the law on conflict of interest.
At the supervisor's meeting with the Mayor and Deputy Mayor, Siniša Milić and Anto Domić, and the Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the District Assembly, Esed Kadrić and Ivo Filipović, the interlocutors agreed that government departments and other public administration bodies should continue to work during the election campaign and the period of the technical mandate.
