Superpowers in recession: UK GDP records record fall

(Patria) – Great Britain has entered a recession after a record GDP fall of 20.4% during quarantine, the National Statistics Office reported.

A sharp fall in GDP was observed during the second annual quarter, from April to June, when the stay-at-home measure was at its peak.

This figure is particularly evident when compared to the result of the first quarter, January – March, when GDP experienced a fall of 2.2%.

An increase of 8.7% was recorded in June immediately after the easing of measures, but it is still 17.2% lower than in February.

The British government hopes for a GDP growth trend after the opening of hotels and catering facilities, as well as fitness centers.

The coronavirus epidemic in Great Britain has also caused an increase in unemployment - in the second quarter, more than 730,000 citizens lost their jobs, especially from the younger and older age groups.
