Suspected of War Crimes: Brčko Police Arrest Begzad Kajtazi along with Pekić

On the order of a prosecutor from the Special Department for War Crimes of the Prosecutor's Office of BiH, police officers of the Brčko District Police of BiH, in the Brčko area, located and arrested the suspects: Begzad Kajtazi, born on 01/01/1963 in Drenovac, Serbia, a citizen of BiH, and Šemsudin Pekić, born on 10/01/1956 in Brčko, a citizen of BiH, reports the Patria News Agency.

The individuals are under investigation and are suspected of having acted contrary to the provisions of the Geneva Conventions on the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War, during the war in BiH, in their capacity as commanders and members of the 5th Company of the 1st Battalion of the HVO 103rd Brigade Bosanska Posavina, in the area of the village of Bukvik.

Begzad Kajtazi is suspected of personally and directly killing two women of Serb nationality, Brestovački Milka (born 1942) and Brestovački Radojka (born 1933), by shooting them with a firearm in mid-September 1992, during the HVO attack on the village of Bukvik. The suspect Pekić, in his capacity as company commander, did not prevent his soldier from committing the crime, nor did he prosecute or punish him for the committed crime.

The individuals are suspected of committing the criminal offense of war crimes against the civilian population.

The Brčko District Police of BiH will escort the suspects to the acting prosecutor within the legal deadline for questioning, who will then decide on the proposal to impose detention or prohibiting measures in accordance with the law.

The Prosecutor's Office of BiH, in cooperation with the State Investigation and Protection Agency - SIPA, the Brčko District Police of BiH, and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Republika Srpska, will continue the investigation to determine criminal responsibility for the murders of approximately 50 civilians of Serb nationality in the village of Bukvik in 1992, it was announced from the Prosecutor's Office of BiH.
