SUSPECTED TERRORISM IN BRUSSELS: Police officer killed, another injured, attacker neutralized

(Patria) - One police officer was killed and another was injured in a knife attack that occurred on Thursday evening in Brussels.

The attacker was neutralized, and the anti-terrorism unit has taken over the investigation.

"We have taken over the case because there is suspicion of a terrorist motive, which investigators will confirm or refute," said police spokesperson Eric Van Duyse.

Media reports indicate that the perpetrator earlier in the day had said at a police station in Evere that he would kill police officers. He was then questioned but released.

The two police officers were patrolling the area before they were attacked. Another patrol immediately arrived at the scene and "neutralized" the attacker. He was hit in the legs and stomach before being taken to the hospital.
