Around noon local time, refugees breached the fence on the Greek-Macedonian border, and the Macedonian police fired tear gas and stun grenades. Refugees retaliated with stones, reports the Patria News Agency.
The migrants, who were chanting "Open the borders" and simultaneously throwing stones at Macedonian police officers, had to retreat from the police.
Police had previously announced that about 500 migrants had broken through the ranks of Greek police officers to reach the fence separating Greece and Macedonia, and according to the BBC, the migrants managed to breach the fence using a wooden mallet used for breaking down heavy doors.
