(Patria) - A New York state judge has postponed the continuation of proceedings in which US President-elect Donald Trump was convicted of paying "hush money" to a porn actress, documents released on Tuesday show.
Judge Juan Merchan was due to decide by Tuesday whether to overturn the verdict after the Supreme Court ruled in July that the president has immunity. Trump's sentencing was scheduled for November 26.
Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg sent an email to Merchan on Sunday requesting a pause in the proceedings due to Trump's victory in the November 5 election and his inauguration in January 2025. Trump asked the prosecutor to agree to the delay, Bragg wrote.
"Prosecutors believe these are unprecedented circumstances," the email letter states.
Merchan postponed the proceedings until November 19.
Trump was found guilty in May of falsifying business records to conceal a $130,000 payment to porn star Stormy Daniels before the 2016 US presidential election, in exchange for her silence about their sexual relationship.
