Judge Branimir Orašanin and Miroslav Kružik new members of the Independent Board for the Selection and Review of the Police Commissioner

The Commission for Elections and Appointments and Administrative Affairs of the KS Assembly this morning elected two members of the Independent Board for the Selection and Review of the Police Commissioner after board members Domin Malbašić and president Dragan Međović resigned in November 2016. Judge Branimir Orašanin and Miroslav Kružik, head of the security sector at Elektroprivreda BiH and former police inspector, were elected to the Independent Board, Dževad Rađo, a member of the Commission, confirmed to Patria agency.

The selection commission conducted the application procedure and selected these two candidates from 18 applicants, proposing them to the Commission for Elections and Appointments. Their election now needs to be confirmed by the KS Assembly, which is a mere formality. The KS Assembly session has not yet been scheduled.

Otherwise, by filling the Independent Board for the Selection and Review of the Police Commissioner, the process of selecting a new commissioner has been unblocked after the Independent Board dismissed Vahid Ćosić on November 16, 2016, with five votes in favor and two against. On November 18, the KS Government accepted the proposal, and Mevludin Halilović, head of the uniformed police sector, took over the duties until the election of a new commissioner.

Although the Independent Board does not have a legally prescribed deadline to announce the call for applications for the selection of a police commissioner, it is expected that after confirmation in the KS Assembly, the Independent Board will indeed announce the call. One of the candidates will be the current acting police commissioner Mevludin Halilović.

Biographies of the new members of the Independent Board

Judge Branimir Orašanin was born in Sarajevo in 1959. He graduated from the Faculty of Law in 1982. He completed his traineeship at the Administrative Court of SR Bosnia and Herzegovina in 1984 and 1985, and after passing the bar exam, he worked as a professional associate at the Municipal Court II in Sarajevo. He was appointed judge of the same court in 1986, after which, in 2003, he was appointed judge of the Cantonal Court of Sarajevo. In October 2007, by decision of the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council, he was appointed judge of the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

We did not receive the biography of Miroslav Kružik, but we were told that he used to work in the police as an inspector, and today he is the head of the security sector at JP Elektroprivreda BiH.
