(Patria) – Two crew members of a high-speed train lost their lives when the locomotive detached from the rest of the train, derailed and hit a freight train on parallel tracks before crashing into a building.
The accident occurred near the town of Lodi during the morning rush hour in northern Italy, causing traffic disruptions between Milan and Bologna in both directions.
The lifeless body of the driver was found in the train cabin, while the body of the other driver was found only later, as it was thrown several meters from the train due to the impact.
28 passengers sustained serious injuries.
The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
