Passenger and Freight Train Collision: Rescue Operation Underway, Three Dead and 40 Injured

At least three people have died and around 40 have been injured in a train collision near the Belgian city of Liège, reported the Belga news agency, as carried by the Patria news agency. 

The number of victims in the collision between a passenger and a freight train could be even higher, said the mayor of Saint-Georges-Sur-Meuse, Francis Dejon, for Belga.

The cause of the accident is not yet known. Dejon states that the passenger train collided with a freight train traveling on the same track at a speed of 90 kilometers per hour. The passenger train had six carriages and carried around forty people.

A rescue operation is underway in which emergency services are attempting to extract passengers from the train wreckage, writes Index.
