Court in Brčko: Verdict for war crimes based on false testimony

The Court in Brčko delivered a scandalous verdict, sentencing two Bosniaks to three and a half years in prison based on the testimony of a witness who had previously been indicted for false testimony, writes the Bosnian news agency Patria.

The Basic Court of Brčko District found Asmir Tatarević and Armin Omazić from Brčko guilty. The two were charged with war crimes against prisoners of war in 1992 in Brčko.
However, it is interesting that the witness against Tatarević and Omazić was Vasiljko Todić, a former prisoner who also testified in several earlier cases against Bosniaks, but was caught lying, which led to an indictment against him.

The false testimony of Todić did not prevent the Basic Court in Brčko from hearing him again in the case of Tatarević and Omazić.

Todić accused Tatarević and Omazić, as well as other members of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, of tearing flesh from his thigh while he was a prisoner of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, writes Patria.

His statement was refuted by medical documentation from the Military Medical Academy in Belgrade, where Todić was admitted and examined after his release at the end of 1992. The medical documentation from Belgrade does not mention the injuries that Todić presented to the Court in Brčko.

The lawyer of the accused, Osman Mulahalilović, described the verdict as scandalous.

- The court says that the doctors at the Military Medical Academy did not know how to examine Todić – said lawyer Mulahalilović indignantly, writes Patria.
