Students of the Faculty of Philosophy: We oppose the closure of the Institute for the Protection of Student Health

The Student Association of the Faculty of Philosophy (STAFF) fully opposes the closure of the Institute for the Protection of Student Health of the University of Sarajevo, considering this intention a direct attack on the quality of life of students who are not from the Canton of Sarajevo.

- The Institute, which has been an integral part of the University family for decades and is located in the student city that Sarajevo is, is an inseparable part of student life, especially due to the terrible conditions for students living in dormitories, whose inadequacy sends students to the clinic more often than it should.

A canton that hosts nearly 40,000 students who spend their money in that canton, specifically in the city of Sarajevo, should have all the necessary infrastructure, including healthcare, to provide student health protection in line with European cities.

Given that students not from KS could previously only exercise their health rights in two places, KCUS (about whose problems we regularly read) and the Student Polyclinic, which was opened precisely so that students could receive treatment quickly and efficiently, the intention to close the Student Polyclinic leaves these students without a resolved status, and the emerging solutions are nowhere near satisfactory.

We distance ourselves from the statement of SPUS, which regularly and unjustifiably claims to speak on behalf of all or the vast majority of students. We believe that the statement that the Institute only serves for medical certificates (it is untrue that they issue certificates without conducting an examination) testifies to the lack of knowledge and unawareness of the Student Parliament regarding the problems of students, as well as the importance of health protection for all students, especially those from outside KS who are particularly harmed by this decision and who use the polyclinic throughout the year.

The Student Parliament of the University of Sarajevo, which regularly deals with identity issues, has sided with the authorities at the very first real problem for students, demanding reform at the expense of student health, without public debate and analysis, as well as clear solutions regarding the next steps. Thus, SPUS has also revealed itself as a politicized organization whose interest is not the protection of students but the justification of the authorities' decisions from the position of a supposedly independent student organization - state the students.
