Criminalistics students in Potočari: Young generations are the guarantee that the genocide will not be forgotten

Students of the Faculty of Criminalistics, Criminology and Security Studies of the University of Sarajevo visited Srebrenica today and toured the Potočari Memorial Center, where they were hosted by the Mayor of Srebrenica, Ćamil Duraković, reports the Patria news agency.  

- A living memory of the genocide in Srebrenica is more important than monuments we leave to decay. Young generations should cherish the memory of the genocide so that it never happens to anyone again. The genocide in Srebrenica is not a local genocide, but an attempt to destroy Bosniaks as a people. Here there was a genocide against Bosniaks who are no different from those from Sarajevo, Tuzla, Mostar, Zenica, Banja Luka, Višegrad... - Duraković told the students.  

- Young people, who will tomorrow be the bearers of all social and life processes in BiH, and who come to Potočari and visit us who live here, are the guarantee that Srebrenica will not be forgotten - Duraković emphasized.  

The students were interested in Duraković's opinion on the denial of genocide, and the attack on Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vučić.

- I told them that a genocide for which there is a court verdict can never be denied, and that we unnecessarily waste energy on Dodik and those like him. Because, regardless of their story, they will never be able to deny the genocide in Srebrenica. It happened and it has been adjudicated, Duraković told the students.  

- The students and I agree that the Memorial Center is not a place where the prime minister of a country should be attacked, especially Serbia, because Bosniaks do not live here only on July 11. We have returned here, we work and live.  

We are the victim, not the perpetrator of the genocide, so any possible attempt at violence on our part only sends signals to the world that we are the same as them, and we are not and never will be, Duraković points out.

The Mayor of Srebrenica thanked professors Bakir Alispahić and Goran Kovačević who brought the students to visit Potočari. Velid Šabić, an associate of the Institute for Research of Crimes against Humanity and International Law of the University of Sarajevo, also spoke with the students.
