
(Patria) - A horrific accident occurred today at the "Esztergom-Nyerges" rally in northern Hungary.
Hungarian media report that one of the rally drivers lost control of the car, veering off the road and crashing into a group of spectators.
The video shows the car skidding in a large cloud of dust and smoke, then speeding into the gathered crowd.
According to initial information, at least four people were killed and dozens injured.
The rescue service, which arrived at the scene of the accident promptly, immediately treated several open fractures among the injured.
Details of the tragedy were also published on the Rally Life Facebook page. According to the published information, "the driving tandem competing with a Skoda Fabia R5 unfortunately crashed into the crowd, injuring about 30 people."
The page adds that one of the victims was a little girl. The portal Rtl.hu contacted the National Ambulance Service:
"Eight ambulances and four rescue helicopters arrived at the scene. Unfortunately, four lives were lost, one child is in critical condition. One person was seriously injured, and six people (including a child) were transported to the hospital with minor injuries".
The organizers immediately stopped the competition. Kata Répa, a spokesperson for the competition, said they would not comment on the details of the accident until the emergency and police reports were completed, as they want to ensure that only accurate and official information is released.
