SARAJEVO, (Patria) - NATO is ready to strengthen its presence in the eastern part of Europe and is very closely watching Russia, which is moving soldiers and weapons to Belarus, said the Alliance's Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.
He addressed participants of a meeting of a group of experts in Washington via the internet from Brussels, saying that Russia is deploying thousands of combat-ready soldiers, aircraft and S-400 missile systems in Belarus.
"On the Alliance's side, we are ready to engage in political dialogue, but we are also ready to respond if Russia decides on an armed conflict," Stoltenberg emphasized.
Stoltenberg stressed that NATO does not plan to deploy troops in combat readiness in Ukraine.
