Stoltenberg: Russia's nuclear weapon development is concerning NATO

BAGHDAD, (Patria) - NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg is on an official visit to Iraq.

Stoltenberg stated at a press conference in Baghdad that NATO is concerned about the latest statements by Russian President Vladimir Putin regarding nuclear weapons.

- This is part of renewed Russian self-confidence, to which the West is already responding. Of course, we are concerned. Because NATO does not want a new Cold War. We do not want a new arms race – said the NATO Secretary General.

The Russian President stated last week that Russia has produced nuclear weapons ready for use, and that more nuclear weapons are under development.

Stoltenberg said that such statements by Putin are nothing new, as Russia has long been developing new weapons and using military force against Ukraine.

Stoltenberg called on Russia to adhere to the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty, which the US announced Putin had violated with his announcement last week.
