Stećci in BPK Goražde, an exhibition promoting the cultural-historical treasure of BiH

Organized by the Bosniak Cultural Community "Preporod" Goražde, the exhibition "Stećci in BPK Goražde" was opened at the City Art Gallery, authored by historian Eldin Baljević.

This aims to draw attention to the rich cultural-historical heritage of the Upper Drina region, but also to the condition of the monuments, including those under UNESCO protection.

According to the author, the exhibition presents photographs taken at eight stećci necropolises in BPK Goražde, which reflect the beauty of medieval tombstones as well as the real condition they are in.

- These approximately 30 photographs show the real situation in eight necropolises in BPK, which have about 2,000 stećci, and they are neglected and endangered, although two have been declared national monuments of Bosnia and Herzegovina, while the largest, the Goršić Polje necropolis with about 325 stećci, is on the UNESCO World Heritage list, making Goražde part of a global family. In this way, we also want to point out the need to protect and preserve this treasure from decay - explains Baljević.

He reminded that Bosnia and Herzegovina is a signatory to numerous resolutions and conventions, by which it has committed to doing everything to protect this type of heritage from further decay.

BZK "Preporod" is proud to be the organizer of the exhibition, which, they emphasize, raises numerous questions about our relationship with heritage and culture in general.

- BPK and the Upper Drina region as a whole have an exceptionally rich cultural-historical heritage that is insufficiently explored and has the potential to become a very important segment of the tourist potential of this city and canton - said the president of the city society of BZK "Preporod" Goražde, Admir Kurtović.

The exhibition was supported by city and cantonal government structures, whose representatives opened it. The exhibition will be open until January 10, and the organizers plan to set it up in other cities and institutions in Bosnia and Herzegovina afterwards.
