(Patria) - The United Kingdom (UK) was in no way involved in the US attack on Venezuela, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer stated yesterday, the BBC reported.
Starmer says he has not yet spoken with US President Donald Trump about the operation to arrest Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro in Caracas.
When asked by journalists if he condemned the US action, as several British politicians have done, Starmer replied that he first wants to "establish the facts" and speak with Trump about the "rapidly changing situation".
- I can be absolutely clear that we were not involved, and I always say and believe that we should all respect international law - the Prime Minister said in a statement to the British media.
Starmer emphasizes that he is cooperating with the UK Embassy in Venezuela to ensure that the approximately 500 UK citizens in that country are well cared for, protected, and receive appropriate advice.
Trump said that the leftist president of Venezuela and his wife were moved out of the country by plane as part of a military operation carried out in cooperation with the US police.
Elite members of the Delta Force unit participated in their capture, according to US television CBS News.
Indictments for drugs and weapons will be filed against Maduro in New York, according to US officials.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said he does not expect further action against Venezuela.
