Old Town: Betting shops no longer operating in municipal premises

In accordance with the Decision on awarding business buildings and business premises of the Municipality of Old Town Sarajevo for lease and the arrangement of business activities in the area of the Municipality of Old Town Sarajevo, as of October 29, 2016, the activity of gambling is no longer permitted within a 50-meter radius of educational and upbringing institutions, nor in the historical-urban area – Sarajevo's Baščaršija, it was announced from the Municipality of Old Town, reports Patria.

The Municipal Service for Economy and Finance had sent a notice to all lessees of business premises with the right of disposal of the Municipality of Old Town, as well as other users of business premises in the area of the Municipality of Old Town, back in May this year, stating that they are obliged to comply with the decision by October 29 and harmonize their activities.

Immediately after the deadline expired, the competent service inspected the business premises where betting shops were located and determined that the decision was only respected in the municipal business premises.

Specifically, the betting shop at S.H. Muvekita Street no. 6 is no longer operating; the premises are inactive, and eviction proceedings have been initiated, which will be carried out this month or the next. In the business premises at Ćurčiluk mali Street no. 22, catering activities will be conducted in the future, and in the business premises at Velika avlija Street no. 12, there will be a dry cleaner.

According to the records of the competent service, betting shops at the addresses Aščiluk 3, Mula Mustafe Bašeskije 39, Logavina 1, and Bazardžani 9 are not located in municipal, but in private business premises and are still active.

In this regard, the Service for Economy and Finance has submitted a request to the Federal and Cantonal Administration for Inspection Affairs, asking them to conduct on-site inspections and determine where gambling activities are still being carried out, and to take all legally prescribed actions within their jurisdiction. The aforementioned institutions have not yet responded to this request.
