Residents of a German town to be entertained by a dance of 100 drones instead of fireworks for New Year

(Patria) - The German town of Bad Salzuflen will welcome the New Year with a spectacle, but quieter and more environmentally friendly than fireworks - with 100 drones.

The city authorities did not want to reveal exactly what the New Year's event will look like, or what exactly the drones will "draw" in the sky.

- We want to surprise our guests - says Felix Kleemeyer from the city marketing service, which is the organizer of the New Year's drone show.

He only reveals this - there will be a countdown, and symbols of the city will also be visible.

Shortly before midnight, 100 drones will take to the air, and the spectacle will last between 10 and 15 minutes.

The drones are expected to take off from the green areas of the spa park.

Visitors will stand near the concert hall with an excellent view of the celestial spectacle, enjoying music, food and drink.

For safety reasons, no drone will fly directly over the heads of nearly 5,000 visitors.

The colorful spectacle could only be ruined by weather conditions. If there is too much rain, snow or wind, the drones cannot take off, reports DW.

It is the only city drone performance on New Year's Eve in the most populous state in Germany - North Rhine-Westphalia.

Compared to fireworks, drones are significantly quieter and "at least equally visible," point out from the City Administration of Bad Salzuflen.

- We have already said goodbye to the classic fireworks, as traditionally held in previous years - says Mayor Dirk Tolkemitt.

Many pets and wild animals suffer every year on New Year's Eve due to loud firecrackers and rockets.

Exploding fireworks also cause a high level of fine dust pollution at the very beginning of the New Year.

But safety concerns also play a significant role. For these reasons, numerous cities in North Rhine-Westphalia have designated zones where the use of firecrackers is prohibited - among them is Bad Salzuflen.
