Medieval town of Bobovac still sparks curiosity among numerous visitors

(Patria) - The medieval town of Bobovac, located north of Kraljeva Sutjeska, was one of the most fortified and important towns in Bosnia at the time, and it still sparks curiosity among numerous visitors today.

- I visited the royal town of Bobovac between Vareš and Kraljeva Sutjeska while nature was still playing with vibrant colors - says photographer Boris Trogrančić for Punkufer.hr.

You will find the medieval town of Bobovac on the steep slopes of Mijakovići and Dragovići, and during the season, the entrance fee is only 2 KM.

Boris says that the road to Bobovac from both directions is partially a gravel road.

- Bobovac was once the seat of the Bosnian kings of the Kotromanić dynasty. It had an upper town with a square tower, the remains of which still exist - and a lower town, which stretched for approximately 40 meters in length and about 25 meters in width, of which the courtyard and well are recognizable today. The royal burial chapel has been reconstructed.

The town was built by Ban Stjepan II Kotromanić shortly before the first half of the 14th century, and throughout history, it was expanded by kings Ostoja, Tvrtko II, and Tomaš.

Bobovac was the seat of the rulers of the Banate of Bosnia and the Kingdom of Bosnia from the period of Ban Stjepan II's rule, through all the bans and kings, until the disappearance of the Kingdom of Bosnia with the Turkish conquest (in 1463).

It was first mentioned in written documents in 1349 - describes Boris Trogrančić, the once powerful royal town that still sparks curiosity today.

- During the season, which lasts from May 15 to December 1, Bobovac is visited by more than 10,000 tourists from Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as from all over the world - stated Trogrančić.

He explains that Bosnia and Herzegovina last year received a list of the most beautiful villages within a competition organized as part of USAID's partner - the Association for the Development of Rural Tourism in BiH (Alterural).

There are 16 villages from all over the country on this list, and Bobovac (Mijakovići) is one of them.
