(Patria) - Saidin Salkić from Srebrenica, one of the most unique and productive artists of today, a Bosnian artist based in Melbourne, has been given a permanent exhibition at the Australian Consulate in Sarajevo, awarded by the Australian Embassy in Vienna. This represents an exceptional moment in the recognition of this author's work.
Saidin Salkić survived the Srebrenica Genocide at the age of twelve, and his father Sidik Salkić was killed in the Scorpion video. In an interview with Australian media, Salkić reveals details about the exhibition and what the promotion of his work in Bosnia and Herzegovina means to him.
"We have chosen five works from my new painting style to present a certain range of works that delve into different parts of the artistic structure, as well as human emotions and states of human consciousness. The exhibition is called 'Human Pain and Joy,' and in a way, thematically, it speaks about the human ability to feel anxiety and joy, at the same time and from the same consciousness," the artist points out.
Finally, he answers the question of what this exhibition means to him personally.
"I must say that it is a great honor for me to have the opportunity to unite two favorite countries in this way: Bosnia and Australia. It is also a great thing to know that I have risen from the muddy refugee tents where I stayed as a boy to be at the forefront of my new country, symbolizing its progressiveness and strength with my art on the international stage," said Salkić.
