(Patria) - Newly elected US President Donald Trump met today at the White House with current President and former rival Joe Biden, thanking him for the smooth transfer of power.
The Republican returned to the White House for the first time since his election victory last week, holding a meeting in the Oval Office with Democrat Biden, whom he lost the 2020 election to.
"Welcome back," Biden told Trump at the start of the meeting in front of the fireplace.
Trump told Biden that politics is "tough".
"In many cases, it's not a pretty world. But it's a pretty world today," the Republican added.

Trump thanked Biden for the smooth transfer of power, to which Biden replied, "You're welcome."
"I really appreciate the smooth transition, it will be as easy as possible," Trump added.
Trump celebrated his victory today in the House of Representatives with his Republicans, who have a strong chance of retaining their majority once the final results from the November 5 elections arrive.
"Isn't it nice to win? It's nice, it's always nice to win," Trump said there.
Biden, who was previously a rival candidate to Trump before withdrawing from the race and handing over the position to his Vice President Kamala Harris, received the Republican in the Oval Office, a tradition after elections, but one that Trump did not honor after his 2020 defeat.
