Serbia abolishes police escorts and convoys in international goods transport

(Patria) - The Republic of Serbia completely abolished police escorts and convoys in international goods transport this morning, following an appeal made two days ago by the Minister of Communications and Transport of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Vojin Mitrović.

As Mitrović pointed out, the abolition of police escorts and the formation of convoys will help all drivers, healthcare workers, and workers at border crossings, as well as all citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Republic of Serbia in supplying necessary goods, and will significantly contribute to the fight against the coronavirus.

Namely, the gathering of vehicles engaged in international transport during the state of emergency leads to large crowds at border crossings, thereby creating the possibility of spreading the infection to drivers, police officers, customs officers, and other workers at border crossings. Finally, Minister Mitrović once again thanked the Government of the Republic of Serbia for its efforts to normalize road transport of goods in these difficult times and avoid congestion at border crossings caused by long queues.
