The Russian Direct Investment Fund and the Institute of Virology, Vaccines and Serums "Torlak" in Belgrade have concluded an agreement on the production of the Russian coronavirus vaccine "Sputnik" in Serbia, which could be launched by May, the fund announced.
The Fund emphasizes that Serbia will be the first country in Southern Europe to produce "Sputnik V", and that in the future, vaccine exports to other countries in the region are possible, "Sputnik" reports.
The production of the "Sputnik V" vaccine at the "Torlak" Institute is expected to begin by May.
Head of the Russian Fund Kirill Dmitriev said that Serbia was among the first countries in the world to approve and begin applying the Russian vaccine for the immunization of the population against the coronavirus.
- The production of "Sputnik" at the Torlak Institute will simplify logistics and enable the acceleration of the vaccination program implementation in Serbia - Dmitriev stated.
The first batch of the Russian vaccine "Sputnik V" was delivered to Serbia on December 30 last year, and immunization with the Russian vaccine in Serbia began on January 6.
