
(Patria) - At the international Green Destinations 2023 conference, held in Tallinn, Estonia on October 9 and 10, 2023, the Nature Monument "Skakavac" of the Cantonal Public Institution for Protected Natural Areas, with its story of good practice "Where Urban Meets Nature - Monument of Nature Skakavac", was declared one of the TOP 100 Green Destinations stories on sustainability for 2023 worldwide, in a category that promotes sustainable tourism and stories of good practices each year, all with the aim of promoting the destination itself.
The submission of the good story was preceded by an assessment of the Green Destinations criteria that needed to be met in order to present the work and good story of the Cantonal Public Institution for Protected Natural Areas. The good practice story "Where Urban Meets Nature - Monument of Nature Skakavac" introduces readers to the challenges the Institution has faced over many years of work, in order to preserve the unique nature and cultural-historical heritage of this area for future generations.
In cooperation with GIZ (Deutsche Gesellschaft fur Internationale Zusammenarbeit) and Green Vision Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Institution has thus entered the certification process of the Nature Monument "Skakavac" as a Green Destination, one of five destinations from the entire Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The competition was held under the auspices of the Top 100 Partnership, with special contributions from: Green Destinations, QualityCoast, Travelife, ITB Berlin, Asian Ecotourism Network, Ecotourism Australia, Global Ecotourism Network, Sustainable First, and GLP Films. This competition was also supported by the Future of Tourism Coalition.
Green Destinations is a Dutch organization that works on assessing, building capacity, and certifying destinations and businesses committed to sustainable tourism.
This organization manages a number of global programs through its main team of coordinators and program managers. It also leads a global partnership of over 50 representatives, consisting of sustainable tourism experts, consultants, and non-profit organizations, who work for the benefit of the Green Destinations community. To date, more than 450 destinations and 50 businesses from 60 countries have participated in their programs. Together with the Green Destinations community and associates, the organization aims to make tourism better and more sustainable.
All employees of the Cantonal Public Institution for Protected Natural Areas of Sarajevo Canton, as well as the Ministry of Communal Economy, Infrastructure, Spatial Planning, Construction and Environmental Protection of Sarajevo Canton, which continuously provides support to the protected natural areas of Sarajevo Canton, deserve special credit for this significant success.
Minister Bečarević publicly congratulates the Cantonal Public Institution for Protected Areas on this occasion and wishes them continued success in promoting nature protection and sustainable tourism.
