(Patria) - The Historical Museum of BiH announced the opening of an exhibition today titled 'Monuments of World War II with a focus on the Kadinjača Memorial Complex'.
The exhibition is part of the 'Museum Stories' project, implemented by the City of Sarajevo in partnership with the Historical Museum of BiH, the Vuk Karadžić Cultural Center from Loznica, and the Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments from Kraljevo.
The project is financed by the IPA II cross-border cooperation program Bosnia and Herzegovina - Serbia 2014-2020.
The project aims to strengthen the cultural identity of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia by supporting the work of museums as guardians of cultural and historical heritage and tradition, in terms of increasing their visibility, improving capacities, enhancing mutual cooperation, and raising awareness of the importance of museums in society.
The project includes ten museums from the cross-border area, five from Bosnia and Herzegovina and five from Serbia. In addition to the Historical Museum of BiH, which is a partner of the project, museums from Bosnia and Herzegovina included in the project activities are the National Museum of BiH, the Olympic Museum of BiH, the Museum of Literature and Theatre Arts of BiH, and the Vijećnica Museum.
The Historical Museum of BiH was a co-applicant with the City of Sarajevo for this project, participated in its creation, and successfully implemented its project activities.
The exhibition 'Monuments of World War II with a focus on the Kadinjača Memorial Complex' is the result of cooperation between the Historical Museum of BiH and the National Museum Užice from Serbia.
The exhibition showcases some of the most significant memorial parks and memorial complexes of World War II, with a special focus on the Kadinjača Memorial Complex as an example of their origin and development.
'The monument at Kadinjača in Užice was erected in glory of the fallen partisans of the Workers' Battalion, but like other monuments of World War II, it carries a universal message of heroism and determination in the fight against fascism.
As a museum dealing with the heritage of World War II and socialism, the Historical Museum of BiH - formerly the Museum of Revolution of BiH, is a kind of monument to that era and as such an ideal place to present this exhibition,' it was stated.
The exhibition is a contribution to bringing the former splendor of these monuments closer to the contemporary observer and to illuminating the paths towards them with new interpretations.
