Memorial plaque for murdered Dženan Memić in Velika aleja

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - On Saturday, 17.02.2018, at 1:00 PM in Velika aleja on Ilidža, a memorial plaque will be placed at the site where, under still unexplained circumstances, the young man Dženan Memić lost his life.

The Memić family, together with their lawyer Ifet Feraget, has been trying for more than two years to uncover the truth about the murder of this young man. On the night of February 8, 2016, Dženan was in the company of a girl named Alisa Mutap when, under still unclear circumstances, he sustained head injuries from which he died on February 15, 2016, at the Clinical Center of the University of Sarajevo (KCUS).

The case was initially treated as a traffic accident, then as a murder by an unknown perpetrator, only for the Cantonal Prosecutor's Office to reclassify the act as a traffic accident a few months later. Proceedings are underway against Ljubo and Bekrija Seferović, who are being tried for causing a traffic accident and obstructing evidence, but the Memić family has considered this process a farce from the very beginning.

The father of the deceased young man, Muriz Memić, told the Patria agency that he has obtained all necessary approvals for placing the memorial plaque, which will serve as a permanent reminder of the fight for truth and the struggle against the police and judicial system.

The Memić family has already organized peaceful protests six times, demanding the truth about Dženan's death and calling for the dismissal of the Chief Cantonal Prosecutor Dalida Burzić and all prosecutors who worked on this case. So far, eight of them have appeared in the courtroom. Legal experts consider this an unprecedented case of a traffic accident represented by such a large number of prosecutors.

Lawyer Ifet Feraget also wrote to the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council, seeking a final reaction in this case of "unprecedented corruption in the judicial system."

The family invites all those who can and support their struggle to attend the placement of the memorial plaque.

At the Cantonal Court in Sarajevo on February 21, the trial of the Seferovićs will continue, with testimony from police officers Elvedin Boja and Velibor Ristivojević, who arrived at the scene after members of the DKPT, and Sefedin Škrijelj, an investigator who was present at the scene investigation on the night of February 8.
