Specialist Unit of FUCZ Conducts Firefighting Exercise

The Specialist Unit for Protection and Rescue of the Federal Civil Protection Administration (FUCZ) conducted a demonstration exercise on Bjelašnica to extinguish a simulated open space fire in inaccessible terrain using a relay water supply system, reports the Patria News Agency.

This exercise area was chosen because, in addition to coniferous and deciduous forests, it is also covered with grass, which is susceptible to causing large-scale fires in that area during high temperatures due to the carelessness of excursionists.

Namely, excursionists in the summer period can cause fires, which usually arise from not adhering to the ban on lighting fires in open spaces or in places with a high risk of fire.

The greatest possibility of fire occurrence, considering the density of the forest, is immediately along the edge of the forest on the ski slope itself, where excursionists linger longer but do not remove potential ignition sources, such as waste material or embers after lighting a fire.

The acting director of the Federal Civil Protection Administration, Fahrudin Solak, assessed that the exercise was successfully conducted and expressed satisfaction with the readiness of the members of the Federal Civil Protection Administration to respond to such challenges.

Through training activities, the psycho-physical capabilities of the Specialist Unit members in extinguishing open space fires under conditions of reduced tactical capabilities were tested.

Members of the Professional Firefighting Unit of Čapljina, who are part of the joint unit for extinguishing open space fires in the border areas of Croatia, Montenegro, Serbia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina, demonstrated the use of motor backpack pumps for firefighting today.

A check of communication equipment, i.e., communication means for mutual data and information exchange, was also carried out, as well as the possibility of transmitting data to a higher command level and requesting assistance in case of need.

Around 200 people participated in the exercise, including 152 members of the FUCZ Specialist Unit, five members of the Professional Firefighting Unit of Čapljina, 10 members of the Professional Firefighting Unit of KUCZ of Sarajevo Canton, and 20 people as logistical support from FUCZ.
