Rescued from the mountain by helicopter, but he returned again - for his mobile phone

(Patria) - A Chinese student (27) living in Japan, who climbed Mount Fuji outside the official climbing season, was rescued twice in four days.

The Chinese national was first rescued by helicopter on Tuesday at an altitude of 3,000 meters, after he was unable to descend the trail because he had lost his crampons, which facilitate climbing, the BBC reported.

He returned to the mountain a couple of days later to retrieve his belongings he had left there, including his phone, and was rescued again on Saturday after developing altitude sickness and is now out of danger.

Due to the difficult conditions, people are not recommended to climb Mount Fuji outside the official climbing season, which begins in early July and ends in early September.

All trails leading to the summit of Mount Fuji are currently closed, the Japanese Ministry of the Environment announced.

Some users of the X platform criticized the student for ignoring safety advice not to climb the mountain out of season, stating that he should pay for both rescue missions.

Mount Fuji, at 3,776 meters high, is one of Japan's most popular tourist attractions. More than 220,000 people climbed it between July and September 2023.
