(Patria) - Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez announced yesterday at a press conference with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky that his country will provide one billion euros in military aid to Ukraine in 2026.
The two leaders met yesterday in Madrid to confirm the continuation of cooperation, writes Ukrainska Pravda.
Sánchez promised that Spain will continue to support the Ukrainian people "with the same intensity as on the first day" of the full-scale Russian invasion.
- The Spanish government and our entire society believe that Ukraine should become part of the European Union. I would like to present new support measures from Spain. First of all, it is one billion euros for 2026 for military aid - said Sánchez.
He explained that part of this aid, financed through the EU instrument SAFE, will be directed towards establishing joint production with the Ukrainian defense industry. He added that part of the equipment will be provided by the Spanish Ministry of Defense.
Sánchez emphasized that Spain's total support for Ukraine has already reached four billion euros so far. He also noted that the crisis in the Middle East will not distract his country from providing assistance to Ukraine.
Ukrainian President Zelensky announced the signing of a series of cooperation agreements between Ukrainian and Spanish companies from the defense sector.
