Spahić: Four Merhamet soup kitchens in RS on the verge of closure

The government of the BiH entity Republika Srpska allocated only 51,000 KM for Merhamet last year, which, according to Merhamet, is insufficient for this humanitarian organization to continue its work.

Jasmin Spahić, president of Merhamet in Bosanska Dubica, told Patria that due to the lack of support, the RS government has jeopardized the survival of four Merhamet soup kitchens, which feed around 500 people of all nationalities.

- When the entity Budget for last year was adopted, the Homeland Coalition supported the Budget, on the condition that the allocations for Merhamet be increased from 130,000 to 200,000 KM. The RS National Assembly adopted these amendments. However, when we were supposed to receive the money at the end of the year, only 51,000 KM was paid; ten thousand KM for Merhamet in Banja Luka, nine thousand for Merhamet in Prijedor, and eight thousand each for Merhamets in Bosanska Dubica, Derventa, Bratunac, and Doboj – said Spahić.
