(Patria) - Head of the European Union Delegation to Bosnia and Herzegovina Luigi Soreca met today with BHRT Director Belmin Karamehmedović, and the topic of the meeting was, as he said, the "difficult financial situation" at this public broadcaster, which threatens its future.
"A strong, independent public broadcasting system (PBS) is crucial for providing high-quality and objective programming, as well as for supporting democracy, trust, and social cohesion," Soreca said after the meeting.
He points out that the situation at BHRT has reached a "critical point" and that it is necessary to "act urgently".
"Ensuring the financial sustainability of the public broadcasting system is also a key priority for Bosnia and Herzegovina on its path towards the EU. A new, comprehensive Public Service Act is a long-overdue step. In the short term, options are also available to address the immediate financial needs of BHRT, but they require political will," Soreca emphasized.
Finally, he expressed the EU's readiness to facilitate dialogue among key negotiators with the aim of achieving long-term, sustainable solutions.
