Snow causes chaos on roads in Dalmatia

(Patria) - Heavy snowfall has hit the Split hinterland, especially the area behind Klis and Mosor.

The air temperature is around 0 degrees Celsius. Heavy snow is falling, causing increasing problems in traffic, writes Dalmacija Danas.

Significant problems are occurring in areas above 300 meters above sea level, and the most snow is currently on the road between Dugopolje and Muć.

Several trucks and buses got stuck in the snow on Kočinje brdo and in the Konjsko area.

"Given that snow is currently falling in some parts of the Split-Dalmatia County, especially in the Dugopolje area, we inform drivers that winter conditions have currently occurred on roads D1 and D56.

Driving vehicles in such conditions is difficult, so we call on drivers to exercise additional caution. We urge them to adjust their speed and driving style to the road conditions and to use winter equipment. Police officers are on the ground and are monitoring traffic.

The Road Traffic Safety Act stipulates that winter equipment is mandatory when winter conditions occur on roads, specifically when the road surface is covered with snow or when there is ice.

During winter conditions on the roads, vehicles without the prescribed winter equipment and trucks with trailers are prohibited from driving.

The driver of a motor vehicle is obliged to clear frozen windshields and snow, ice, or water on the vehicle before entering traffic.

Given that the road surface in other parts of the Split-Dalmatia County is wet, we advise all drivers to respect speed limits and to adjust their driving to the road conditions and visibility conditions," the police announced.
