Strong storm claimed five lives in Poland

(Patria) - Falling trees killed five people yesterday in storm-hit southern Poland, with winds blowing up to 155 kilometers per hour.

In the town of Rabka-Zdroj, two adults and one child died under a tree, firefighters announced.

In Zakopane, a popular destination in the Tatras, a 23-year-old woman and a nine-year-old boy died in similar circumstances.

Firefighters intervened 140 times yesterday morning to remove trees from streets and help homeowners with destroyed roofs, local media report.

Strong winds hit southern Poland after three days of unusually warm weather.

Temperatures on March 30 reached a record high for that month - 26.4 degrees in the city of Tarnow, the Polish agency PAP reported.
