Powerful explosion at Texas farm: One worker seriously injured, 18,000 cows killed

(Patria) - A powerful explosion at a Texas farm killed about 18,000 dairy cows and seriously injured a farm worker, state authorities announced today.

- The explosion occurred on Monday at the Southfork Dairy in Castro County, about 600 kilometers northwest of Dallas, said Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller, calling the explosion a "horrific event.".

A farm worker who was trapped in the building after the explosion and fire was rescued and taken to the hospital for treatment, authorities said.

- The cause of the fire remains under investigation. There are lessons to be learned, and this fire could have an impact on the industry, Miller said.

- While the loss of so many animals and property is devastating, I am grateful that there was no loss of human life, Castro County Judge Mandy Gfeller told local television station NewsChannel10, reports Hina.
