Deadly knife attack in central Paris, a German national killed

(Patria) - One person was killed and two were injured after a knife attacker stabbed passers-by in
central Paris near the Eiffel Tower on Saturday evening, said Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin, confirming police information, agencies reported.

Speaking moments after his first tweet, French Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin confirmed that the suspect attacked tourists, killing one and injuring two others.

"Police have just bravely arrested the attacker who attacked passers-by in Paris, around Quai de Grenelle. One person has died, and one person has been injured who was treated by Paris firefighters. Please avoid the area," the minister wrote on X.

"The suspect shouted "Allahu Akbar" ("God is the greatest") before his arrest," Darmanin said. The suspect was known for radical Islamism and psychiatric problems, and said he could not stand the situation in Gaza, Darmanin added.

The attacker was born in France and is French, the Paris public prosecutor's office announced.

"Police neutralized the attacker very quickly. We tried to save this man's life. This is a man who died, and they (the people attacked) were tourists," Dr. Patrick Pelloux told BFM TV.

The French Interior Minister said the man killed was of German nationality.
