Pećanac's dismissal on Thursday, (un)known who will head the Employment Service

SARAJEVO, (Patria) – A session of the Steering Board of the Public Institution "Employment Service of KS" will be held on Thursday, where director Nermin Pećanac (NBL) will be dismissed, and an acting director appointed.

After the KS Assembly reviewed the Report on the Work of the Public Institution "Employment Service of KS" for 2019 on May 21, which received the support of 17 deputies and was therefore not adopted, a new Steering Board was appointed on June 1 tasked with dismissing Pećanac and appointing a person proposed by the new majority in the Sarajevo Canton.

As previously announced in the media by SBB deputy Fahrudin Pecikoza, Edina Ljubuškić will be appointed acting director of the Service, although Pecikoza did not know her last name at the time. However, as Patria unofficially learns, this appointment is questionable, so another name might be proposed at the Steering Board session.

At the proposal of the Minister of Labour and Social Policy Jasna Agić, Emin Olovčić (president) and members Muhamed Bekto, Vildana Čelić, Mahir Lokvančić, and Džemila Agić-Imamović were appointed to the Steering Board.

On May 28, Pećanac held a press conference where he stated that damage of 5.5 million KM had been incurred in the Service in previous years, and he directly called on the Minister of Labour and Social Policy Jasna Agić to resign, given that she had headed the Steering Board. A part of the Report submitted to the KS Assembly relates to the period when Agić was still on the Steering Board, and the current member of the Steering Board, Muhamed Bekto, was the acting director of the Service. Therefore, it is unclear how Pećanac's work for 2019 was evaluated at all, given that he officially held the position for just over five months.

At that press conference, Pećanac pointed out the connection between Minister Agić and Bekto regarding the employment of Minister Agić's brother at the Center for Social Work, where Bekto was a supervisor. Very soon after, Bekto left the Service and moved to work at the Cantonal Inspectorate Administration.

All irregularities that Pećanac spoke about, both in the KS Assembly and at the press conference, have been reported to multiple addresses, and the Federal Police Administration is currently working on one of the cases in which Mahir Lokvančić, a member of the Steering Board and an employee of the Service, was questioned.

Pećanac has already announced legal proceedings due to the dismissal.
