Gaši Case Collapses Ten Years After Verdict?!

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - The 'Muhamed Ali Gaši and others' case has collapsed a decade after the verdict, after one of the key actors, Ljirim Bytyqi, was acquitted of charges that he shot Amir Pašić on the orders of Gaši on June 12, 2007, in Sarajevo's Bazardžani street in front of the Hacienda catering facility near Baščaršija.

The Patria News Agency was exclusively shown a document from the Cantonal Prosecutor's Office in Sarajevo from June this year, which shows that the investigation against Bytyqi has been suspended.
Prosecutor Dragan Slijepčević made a decision to suspend the investigation against Bytyqi for attempted murder, "because there is not enough evidence that the suspect committed the criminal offense in question".

The most serious part of the verdict against Gaši and others, treated in the media in 2009 as one of the biggest post-war trials before the Cantonal Court in Sarajevo, was based on the indictment that Muhamed Ali Gaši, as the 'organizer of a criminal association', ordered Bytyqi and Kuqi Burim to kill Amir Pašić, a close friend of Ramiz Delalić, 'with whom Gaši had been in conflict for years'.

A year later, the Supreme Court of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina confirmed the sentence, according to which Muhamed Ali Gaši was sentenced to a total of 17 years in prison. Gaši was sentenced to four years and eight months for attempted extortion, while for the counts of endangering safety, attempted murder, and seizure of property of general importance... he was sentenced to a total of 13 years in prison. In April 2010, the Supreme Court of FBiH imposed a unified sentence of 17 years in prison on Gaši.
